Dog Daze Hot Sauce

Creating a mock-up of a fictional hot sauce brand.

Creating a Hot Sauce Label

01: Ideation

When given the prompt to create a fictional hot sauce brand, the first thing that came to mind for me is the way that many hot sauce bottles are marketed. Themes of fire, tears, lions, and chains are quite common, so I wanted to stay away from that imagery, while also creating something that thematically fit the product.

Examples of different hot sauce labels in the market.

Dos:

- Unique

- A sense of humor

- Play on how the hot sauce makes you feel

Don'ts:

- Over-used logos

- Only black and red

- Adult-themed

- Too much detail

03: First Rendering And Label Creation

After Drafting up three different sketches, I decided to go with "Dog Dazed". My Illustration had to be edited a bit in order to be more easily readable (a bit brighter, more obvious flames, larger drool drops) but other than that stayed consistent. I drafted out what shape I wanted the label to be in and wrote down a short blurb for the sauce, as well as where I wanted the barcode and nutrition facts to be. After that i polished up the shape, added my aspects in, and was ready to place it on the mockup.
